Alexis Sattler is a literary agent with HSG Agency.
Alexis worked and interned her way across the U.S., from The Oxford American in Arkansas to McSweeney’s and Chronicle Books in California. She eventually landed in the editorial department of Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House. During her four years there she edited over a dozen #1 New York Times-bestselling titles. She then made the transition to the agency side of the industry, joining HSG to provide support to Jesseca Salky and develop her own list of clients. In her free time, she paints portraits of her favorite characters on everything from dresser drawers to salt shakers.
Alexis reads across genre with a particular eye toward literary fiction, contemporary family sagas, science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, mysteries, and historical fiction. She is also open to idea-driven nonfiction in the spaces of science, technology, history, politics, cultural criticism, and narrative journalism. An avid armchair traveler, she looks for works that explore unique clashes of culture and believes deeply in the power of world-building. Whether your story is set on another planet, in another time, or at your local convenience store, she wants to know the rules your characters live by. She appreciates big ideas grounded in relatable details and opportunities to dive right into the hearts and minds of characters.
